@PeterPetrik Hi Peter, what is the issue here? I have a mac now and it seems to me that on Catalina QGIS install and starts ok, but maybe I'm just not getting the real problem.

mewoch commented 4 years ago

I'll add that I've just now downloaded and installed 3.10.1 and it is failing complaining that it can't be checked for malicious software.

It's not the not signed error that used to happen with the kyngchaos mac installs - because right clicking and open is not working for me. Besides, it's a completely different error message to the this isn't an authorised developer message.

FWIW, I still have kyngchaos's 3.6 install. Catalina complained in the same way until I removed the MrSID SDK.

Just hold Ctrl or right-click on it in Finder and select Open.

I did that yesterday, and it did not work - as I stated above.

Today it does.

It's still something that shouldn't show up, as it will scare new users away.

This is because of the new notarization requirement in Catalina. If we want it to go away, the OS X installs will need to go through the notarization process.

From a users perspective this is pretty bad. When it happened to me I gave up installing the first time. A few days later I tried again, de-installing and re-installing. Which takes quite some time. Then it happened again.

Then I remembered that sometimes you have to tell MacOS in the security part of the settings to trust this software. This was possible and worked 🎉

Only: I think that other times this was part of the message you got when starting up after installing the first time. With this new message you do not think that you can do anything yourself because the message explicitly tells you to contact the developer.

downloaded QGIS (stable) and it won't open on Catalina. Any solutions here?

for what it's worth: Shows up in Dock, but not in Applications.

right-click "open" doesn't help.

@gioman I haven't gotten any prompts saying Apple can't open it due to it being malicious and am not seeing any similar notes in my security & privacy settings, but will see if it possibly relates. ty!

Was facing the same problem, using Cataline 10.15.6. I solved the issue by opening it in finder -> right click and select open.

I am currently using a mac with security rules set by my company which prohibits the typical Option-Open + Click workaround. Is there any way to get notarized binaries?

ivn951 commented 1 year ago

You can do an installation in a dedicated environment, and run QGIS directly from the terminal.
