This is already available in QGIS 3 http://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/qgis_resource_sharing/ (the proper code source is https://github.com/akbargumbira/qgis_resources_sharing

Has been fixed with the merging of PR #19, so I think this one could safely be closed.
