Flexible label distance #23457

Redmine category:labelling

While the automatic label placement is really quite advanced, there are still collisions and overlaps with other features when forcing all labels to be rendered. Where this is required, a flexible label distance could help, as it would give more collision free positions candidates. The user could be able to chose the possible range of distances (min, max) and optionally the preferred distance if there are multiple options.

Sorry @gioman, in my efforts to be thorough I marked both ends of the duplicate. and now both are closed. Can we please reopen this one as we still need one of them open.

I am using 3.22.1-Białowieża and would also like to see this feature added. Very frequent problem for me. As with the "Position priority" for placing labels preferentially in a given quadrant, a new "Distance priority" would be useful. I have not seen an elegant geometry expression to work around this.
