Are you running an x11 or Wayland session?
I'm running an X11 session. (I'm sorry I didn't specify that in the original report: I didn't actually know the distinction until looking it up to figure out how to answer your question.

This seems similar to https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/issues/57511. I posted there a workaround/solution that worked for me.
Thanks; that does sound very similar!
@82Streetcar, does the workaround reported at https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/issues/57511#issuecomment-2242153912 fixes your issue?
Sorry for not replying earlier: I was in the midst of a project using QGIS and didn't want to undo my backdated install to go back to Pizren to test it. Have tried it now and, unfortunately, I don't seem to have a xfce4/ directory in my ~/.config/, so I haven't been able to find the file I'm supposed to edit. This seems to be because I am using the Mate windows manager, not XFCE4.
I've tried messing with the display settings without any apparent effect, but I can't figure out what an equivalent action to the suggested work-around would be: I'm not finding an easy way to check the DPI (as opposed to supposed pixel size of the screen) in Mate.

@82Streetcar, see https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/issues/57511#issuecomment-2361054530.
I saw that but after a couple of hours of failing to successfully make an equivalent work in Mate, I gave up, and have decided I'm just going to have to switch window managers/desktop environments, since it appears that Prizren works okay in Cinnamon, and I'm increasingly convinced that this can't be fixed for Mate, at least at my Linux skill level.

What is the bug or the crash?
I am running PopOS 22.04 with the Mate window manager. Until recently, I had been using QGIS 3.28 LTR Firenze without issue, but my package manager recently updated me to QGIS 3.34 FTR Prizren. Unfortunately, I discovered that when I opened the Prizren install, the GUI was not displaying correctly, with buttons and the like weirdly compressed: Furthermore, I found that the hot locations to click for buttons and text (for example in the Layers menu) were offset a significant amount from their visual depictions. I was able to downgrade back to Firenze to continue using QGIS, but I haven't been able to find any documentation online of this issue, or what might be causing it/how to get Prizren to play nice with my set-up.
Steps to reproduce the issue
Installing QGIS 3.34 FTR Prizren on a Linux machine running Ubuntu or, ideally, PopOS, version 22.04 with the Mate window manager was sufficient for me to get the abberent behavior discussed above.
Versions
3.34 Prizren. Unfortunately, I've already downgraded back to Firenze, and so can't copy the text to confirm.
