Sorry @tomchadwin not sure if this is the appropriate place to report QGIS issues. the idea of this repo is to collect ideas for improvements in UI/UX. this sounds like a bug to me.

You better report it using the official bug tracker (I know, I know, I would prefer github as well)

I assumed anything which could improve UI/UX for QGIS3 was appropriate, possible bugs included. Never mind.
