Trying to play around with this over the weekend (I tried other dotfile managers before but never liked them, but this one got my attention due to its name coming from OpenSUSE and YAST2).
I'm not sure this solution will really work for me though as almost each of my systems (5 of them in total) has slightly different dot files and using the alternatives means loads of random files making directories messy. There might be a better solution like keeping all common parts of the config in a single file and having a script to source files from a central directory or replace simlinks based on the os/distro etc. but that seems like a bit of a pain as well. I don't want to sink hours into this.
Highly recommend https://yadm.io/docs/install. See e.g. https://github.com/paddyroddy/dotfiles.
