Is there a way to display the load % so the user is aware that it's working?

Thanks @gregcaporaso --- can we create a new issue for that? I suspect it might be easier to handle in a separate PR (I tried playing with a few quick options for displaying a spinner, like @antgonza suggested, but it looks like it might need a little more engineering - a simple config option change didn't help).
