Slow to connect (compared to Openvpn Connect) - possibly due to UI messages #282

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Connect using Openvpn Connect (the closed source one)
2. Connect using ics-openvpn

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

The closed source version is considerably faster (about a second) - ics-openvpn
takes about 2-3 seconds in which a few messages are scrolled on the top bar:
"Authenticating" - "Getting client configuration" - "Adding routes" - Connected.

What mobile phone are you using?

Nexus 5

Which Android Version and stock ROM or aftermarket like cyanogenmod?

Omnirom 4.4.2 (a recent nightly)

Please provide any additional information below.

I managed to build from source but my skills are limited so I'm finding it
difficult to update the source to remove those messages.

Is there any way a config option may be added to supress these messages and
decrease the connection time?

Thank you.

The newer implementation of the OpenVPN Connect client might connect faster
but if there is any difference it is not the UI that slows things down. The
difference in connection setup is unfortunately in the underlying OpenVPN
client. If you connect to a local VPN server the connection is about ~1 sec.

Marking this as invalid unless/until new evidence is provided that really the
UI is at fault. For the underlying OpenVPN programm a bug report/issue in the
OpenVPN bugtracker is more suited.
