Thanks for sharing this, DJ. I realise that this might be a stupid question, but is the boat moored during the day while you are working? Also, are you able to stay on the canal all year round? And what about rough weather? Sorry for dumping questions on you like that, but I am intrigued by this way of life :-D
Great questions, Morten. Yes, while I work during the day, I'm moored. This can be anywhere though, just on the side of the canal in the middle of nowhere, or in a town, a marina, or somewhere in between. I can stay on the canal all year round, the licence I pay for is a "continuous cruiser" one which basically allows that. One can stay up to a max of 14 days in any one spot, before having to move on. Rough weather happens but the most it does to the canal is create waves which aren't too bad, at least not as bad as the rain that ends up soaking you through, if you happen to be cruising (and therefore standing on the open stern deck). Actually the "worst" weather related issue is wind, which can catch the boat on the side and make it really difficult to manoeuvre.
