"popular" browsing option #28

This would probably be in the form of tab at the top of the page that let you sort by "popular", which would list all the shows by how many times the page was accessed. Failing the ability to do this, it would be good to be able to sort shows by which ones have media attached so people who we direct to the site can find the shows they can listen to without prior knowledge of the site.

Not sure this would be very useful. A rating system on shows would be more relevant, but everyone does that so it wouldnt be very "unique". Would have to come after accounts as well.

Why don't you think it would be useful? As of right now, we have no real way to differentiate which shows have media attached and which don't, there are a ton of shows on soundcloud linked to this site and it can be hard to find them unless you already know exactly which shows are available, which most people coming to this site won't unless we tell them specifically. AQ.net is pretty much always my choice when I introduce people to their music and if there was an easily available way they can see what else they can listen to it would just make the site more accessible in general!

A curated list might be a way to fix both issues here. We can just mark a show as featured, and then it shows on the front page.

FWIW "view" stats are usually made up and/or easily gamed on most sites.

Agreed with both.

How about this: We could have a "featured show" at the top of the home page list in the center. If it has any embeds it could pop up in the right column too. Give it a soft yellow background to highlight it.

I think "shows in today's history" would be more interesting than a featured show, as the media area kinda features new shows already, and soundcloud has featured shows no it. But that's just my 2 cents.

This is pretty vague. Let's talk it over and then make it a little more concrete.

Maybe a blog or integrating UPB further is the answer instead.
