[Wayland] Setting wallpaper using Qtile causes memory usage to increase on each lazy.reload_config() call #5027

Open mondo-code opened 1 week ago

mondo-code commented 1 week ago

Issue description

On Wayland (this does not happen on X11), using the wallpaper parameter in Screen to set a wallpaper inside config.py causes RAM usage to increase each time lazy.reload_config() is called, indicating that Qtile seems to repeatedly store the current wallpaper in memory when reloaded continuously. After removing the line that sets wallpaper when Screen is instantiated in config.py, reloading config doesn't increase RAM usage anymore.

Version

0.28.2.dev0+gf1ed49bc.d20240813

Backend

Wayland (experimental)

I think this is probably a dupe of #4821, which we had to revert in #4897 because of a new bug in .restart() that those patches created. Nobody has had time to look at exactly how to fix that, unfortunately.
