Isochrones hanging #2

I can't get isochrones to run at all now it seems. I don't think I changed anything related to it recently besides catchign up witht he latest release-and it worked fine for a bit after that. experiment2.ipynb is what ive been using as the test.

@quadrychance are you able to identify where it is dying? Can you post a self-contained code snippet here, and indicate where it fails?
