@quarnster Will leave this to you to pull the trigger, would be interesting to see if it builds OK in OSX.

Added patch for gettext to speed up compilation, gettext-dont_build_docs_and_examples. Credits to the guys at Openelec for that.

You're not cross compiling, you're building for your local system. So nope it didn't compile right on OSX

I will take a look again, now it's known that cross compiling is the issue. Might just need a few more tweaks, got a few ideas I'm going to try now
