New release is highly expected to support Jakarta EE 9/10: https://github.com/quartz-scheduler/quartz/issues/794

Also Spring Boot 3.0.1 has been released this week and we unable to migrate due to incompatibility between Spring Boot 3.x and Quartz.

Hello sergey May I ask when will the Quartz support Jakarta EE9/10 version plan come out?

Hi @mamba4lifek

You should ask maintainers of this library about that.

Contact one of these people on the contributors list. Maybe one of them will give an answer.

@jhouserizer @zemian as the top contributor and the person who has the last commits on this repo, we have the following questions. Do you know if there will be new versions of quartz? If there is going to be a new versions will there be versions compatible with Jakarta EE 9/10?

Sorry for the mentions, I see no better way of contacting the developers. I see no activity on the google groups community. I am also trying to contact Software AG directly with the same questions

Software AG got back to me and tells me that "you can use it as-is, but the open source variant will not get focus for evolution"

What does that even mean? It almost sounds like someone used an AI chatbot to reply to you. So, they only want to support the paid version? If that is their stance, then they should open up the project so other developers can contribute to it.

It is send by a manager and it was in dutch, so I tried to translate it, but even in dutch it is not saying much.

What I am reading (and this is not what is exactly stated in the e-mail) is that quartz will not get any new releases (but might be given a security fix (as this is not evolution))

Thanks for the clarification. However, a security fix is not migrating it to JEE 10. It almost seems like they no longer want to support the open source QuartzDesk project.

Given the current state of the quartz project, are there any alternatives for scheduling and persistent jobs in java(Java-JEE, Tomcat 10)?

@vdotjansen , @ewsachse - that's funny, because there is not a commercial version of quartz, nor has there been in many years.

We expect to make a release in the next few weeks to address the jakarta namespace changes. Contributions to make that change are welcome and would speed up the effort.

jhouserizer commented 1 year ago

@ewsachse " they should open up the project so other developers can contribute to it." - we've been calling for volunteer maintainers for years now.
