~Be Lazy And~ Let Your Editor Do The Work

Abstract

Developers are lazy. Period. Well ... not entirely but when it comes to mundane everyday tasks, this certainly holds up. So why not do what we're best at? Actively being lazy - whilst increasing productivity and joy on the side!

In this talk, I want to show why Vim is one of - if not the most awesome text editor - and why every developer should have at least tried it once, before judging it.

Your name (and pronouns)

Nils Weber (or "Kat" for short) (He/Him)

Location

I'm based around Nuremberg and would like to speak at the upcoming Munich event. (I'd also be open to any other future meetups - however the organisers see fit ^^)

👋 👋 👋 So happy to see your proposal here after speaking on Twitter! We'd love to have you at the Munich event 😊 One small note about your proposal though, would you be open to trimming the title down to only Let Your Editor Do The Work? The term lazy is considered ableist and could be offensive to some in the community.

Regardless, I can add you as a speaker to the website right away 🎉

Last question, would you need support with your train ticket? If so, we can let you know the process for that.

carolstran commented 4 years ago

I lied, now the last question: On the website, would you prefer to have your name listed as Nils or Kat?

Yay! Thank you so much! 🎉

While I don't fully agree with the article, I definitely understand your concern. It wasn't meant to be offensive in any way and should be read as a joke instead (because you're doing exactly the opposite of being lazy). Anyway, sure thing! 👍 I'll adjust the title accordingly so there won't be any confusion. ^^

If that would be possible, I'd be more than happy to accept! ^^

Oh no! 🙀😜 - Either one is fine but if you want put the full name on the website, you can just use Nils so nobody gets confused (or maybe have it sit in between like a nickname? - whatever fits best!). Just Kat is also totally okay! ^^

carolstran commented 4 years ago

Ah yeah, the article isn't a perfect representation but wanted to at least provide something to explain the concern. Thanks for understanding and adjusting! Really appreciated.

Sure it's possible! Right now the way it works is that you would purchase your tickets and then be reimbursed through our Open Collective. But @SaraVieira can provide more details because I've never actually done it 😆

Yay ok I'll add you to the website now! I'll use your full name with Nils for now but we can always adjust it to Kat later if you prefer after seeing it. Or like you said, some combination! We're flexible 😊

Hello again @vimkat! Writing with some grim news. We've been talking a lot within the QueerJS team about the spread of COVID-19. As a result, we've unfortunately decided to cancel many of our upcoming events, including the one in Munich 😞

We really appreciate you wanting to speak and I'm personally bummed I won't be able to hear it yet. If you already purchased any train tickets or other transit-related things for coming to the event, you can still expense it via our Open Collective.

Let me know if you want me to keep this issue open! We're hoping to be able to continue events as soon as it becomes safe again.

vimkat commented 4 years ago

Hey @carolstran! Thanks for the info. I've already heard some rumors about postponing the events due to the current situation and unfortunately this is the case now. I was really looking forward the the meetup but I also understand the reasoning behind that decision.

Fortunately, I haven't purchased any tickets/etc. yet so that's not an issue, thank you though. If it is possible to keep the issue open, I'd gladly accept that. Maybe there won't be any events in the near future but I hope that they will continue once this is all over. I'd really like to speak at an upcoming event once they're back - even if it's not in Munich anymore - and I can wait. ^^

Please keep my posted on any updates! Stay safe! ^^
