did you know .GAME is a domain and www.scrum.game is available?

quikdraw2700 commented 6 years ago

I was not aware ,game was a TLD, It looks like scrum.game is available, but as of 5/8/18 it is $500. Not sure we're up for that level of annual cost. ScrumTheBoardGame.com is $15/year. Much more doable at this point. But I appreciate your point about the TLD and maybe if we get to the point the cost is something we can absorb and there is enough demand it might be worth reconsidering.

I had no idea it was a $500 value!! I'd choose to stay with dotCOM

If TheGrid.io ever get's their V3 AI code working I'd be willing to use it to create a website. I've got a lifetime license - they are struggling to get it released, may be headed down the drain.

Did one of you buy the domain already?

quikdraw2700 commented 6 years ago

Yes, I bought ScrumTheBoardGame.com months ago when we decided on the name. That's what this item represented, and why it was in the 'In Production' column on the board, ;^)

davidakoontz commented 6 years ago

Hey - in Production vs in Progress (I see those as the same).

why don't we hook up a front door: get on our mail list google doc to that site... I think I've got some tools for doing that somewhere... I assume this is just a (not hosted) landing page; do you have ability add code to that page?

quikdraw2700 commented 6 years ago

I think, at least speaking for me, we had split the story. 1) Decide on name for game, so we could find a domain name. DONE 2) Acquire a domain. DONE (this was what this item originally represented) 3) Find a hosting server/service and get a site up and running. (This is NOT done.)

I did spend time reviewing various hosting providers, eventually selected a free one to start with. Setup a Wordpress site although did not map our domain name to it yet because there were some questions/issues that needed to be resolved. There's nothing there that couldn't be done better somewhere else. But getting a site up and running was viewed, at least by myself, as a separate item, which we don't currently have a PBI for.

If this is what you're focusing on, that's great! Maybe you could create a new PBI, sign up for it (assign it to yourself on Github), and run with it.

If I've misunderstood what you're trying to tell me, you may have to use smaller words for me to follow. Or perhaps a phone call may be in order with lots of hand waving... ;^)

Thank you for the context and back story. And the invitation to work on it. I am having focusing issue - but that's on me.

I was attempting to be funny... RE in Production vs Progress; I confused those labels by not reading well. I've never worked in a kanban group that had a "in Production" column... rarely does SW get that far (humor).

I think I'm following what you're saying, and trying to provide more context. Unfortunately large companies rarely know what it's like to literally "ship" software. I could pontificate for pages on the differences between companies that ship and those that don't, but I'm preaching to the choir here.

Hopefully my additional comments helped shed some light on previous thinking, at least from my PoV.

Again, feel free to create a new PBI to "Instantiate a Live Web Site for ScrumTheBoardGame.com" and jump in if you'd like. After the reviewing of hosting options Tim and I agreed to go with "free" hosting and focus on the game until we were a little further down the road, given our respective bandwidth. None of what's been done is necessarily worth keeping, and it is at least 6 months old so feel free to take that stick and run with it.
