Colour plot points by a third variable? #2918

It should be possible (if a bit slow) to colour the plot points by a chosen variable. This could be particularly useful for property-property plots, e.g. SST vs Salinity could be coloured by timestamp.

This will be required for non-timestamp-based measurements (e.g. depth/longitude as axes, colours as value) #2931
