Summary

Heeey

I wondered if quran.com-frontend-next repo (https://github.com/quran/quran.com-frontend-next) was intentionally left unlicensed?

I know there were issues/PRs like these  https://github.com/quran/quran.com-frontend-next/pull/129 https://github.com/quran/quran.com-frontend-next/issues/101 https://github.com/quran/quran.com-frontend-next/issues/120

But they were all closed, implying that we do indeed want to leave them unlicensed? :eyes:

If that's the case, wouldn't it be better to state it in the README.md that we don't want this work to be reused? Or at least pick a license that would be suitable :man_shrugging:

Would save some time from reoccurring issues that ask about re-using app, font, etc.

Assalamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,

Generally speaking, the absence of a license means that the default copyright laws apply. This means that you retain all rights to your source code and that nobody else may reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from your work.

This is a well known in the industry and I DO NOT recommend you to do the things mentioned above unless you got permission.

Putting it in a place like README.md or a license file could help immensely for the people seeking to do the things mentioned above, but in the current state, you are not allowed.

Slamu Aleykum Phelix 😄

Yup 👍, I'm aware that I don't have permission to edit the README.md and that an absence of a license means that you cannot use the source code freely 😄

I was only asking the maintainers if it would be a good idea to add an 'extra' clarification to the README.md that the source code is not free to use since I'm pretty sure not a lot of people are aware that a lack of a license means that copyright laws apply 🤷‍♂️

Also, the extra clarification would save people from creating new issues asking if they can re-use something 🤷‍♂️
