advanced setting for quran_android root directory #226

Closed ahmedre closed 11 years ago

ahmedre commented 11 years ago

many people complain about being forced to use the internal sdcard. a good work around, now that all the data is in /sdcard/quran_android, is to have a hidden advance setting in which an advanced user can point to a different base quran_android directory that we'll always use.

smar000 commented 11 years ago

As a workaround, I use the "DirectoryBind" app (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262), and map /sdcard/quran_android to a folder on my external storage card (/extSdCard/AppData/Quran_Android). This requires root access though.

Nice Idea! but i dont think it is a total help, when another application plays with the directory to make vitually see as internal SD. so i think it will be better if the android quran itself contain the features of deciding the path. But now im using your idea for the time being... :)

ahmedazeem commented 11 years ago

Any one knowing the application files concerning deciding where the data (audio files) will be saved...

hmaher commented 11 years ago

I have added Advanced Settings for moving app files..

ahmedazeem commented 11 years ago

A very big thanx for the this work. alhamdu lillah.

  1. on galaxy nexus and other phones, i can't change the location of where the data is, so we should not be showing this. (my guess) is that we should remove "internal storage" from the list - then if the list size is 0 or 1, don't show the preference. i should only see it on a device like a galaxy s2, which should then show sdcard 1 and sdcard 2 or whatever.
  2. i think we should show which one is currently selected when you open up the preference (ie set the preference so it's clear what is the currently selected item, so i know what i am changing it from/to).
  3. i tried the copy, got a dialog message (and no error), and when it was done, things didn't work. when i re-launched the app, i got the question to "download required files." i disabled wifi to check and got no pages :( tried to copy it back from the setting, and again, nothing. looking at the sdcards, both directories were gone completely :(

i agree with ahmadazeem, it will be better if the app contains a feature which users can decide where to save the data (audio) files. but can it done without require root?

ahmedre commented 11 years ago

this is already implemented by @hmaher and does not require root (get the trunk version of the repository to try it out). jazakAllah khairan.

ghost commented 11 years ago

how to use this feature? just move whole folder (quran_android) to external SD? i can't find the setting

ahmedre commented 11 years ago

@hmaher can you send @ridhoibnsyamsi a build with some logging, and @ridhoibnsyamsi can you send us some logs when this happens to help us figure out and fix the problem insha'Allah? jazakAllah khairan.

ahmedre commented 11 years ago

ping.

ghost commented 11 years ago

i'm sorry, i not understand programming at all. i am only a user. when i updated the apps, there are not any options to change the path in the setting. or i must do something?

ahmedre commented 11 years ago

@ridhoibnsyamsi i think we have a problem on our side - @hmaher will send you a new version that will give us some information so we can solve the problem insha'Allah.
