English translation typo mistakes #329

Closed Somaiagabr closed 4 years ago

Somaiagabr commented 11 years ago

sura 17 verse 61. english translation has an error it says 'angles' it should be ' angels' sahih international

Somaiagabr commented 10 years ago

Just one error I wanted you to fix with the English translation of the Qur'an. In the translation by Yusuf Ali, in Surah Al Mulk, verse 19, you have repeated a verse twice which makes the sentence not in sense. This is the translation:

"Do they not observe the birds above them, spreading their wings and folding them in? None can uphold them except (Allah) Most Gracious: Truly (Allah) Most Gracious: Truly it is He that watches over all things."

It should have been:

"Do they not observe the birds above them, spreading their wings and folding them in? None can uphold them except (Allah) Most Gracious: truly it is He that watches over all things.

Please remove the "Truly (Allah) Most Gracious:"

verified in Kindle version.

yusuf ali 51:47 - pace should be space.

ATouhou commented 9 years ago

They got their translations from "http://tanzil.net/"
I have contacted them now regarding this

If any response, I will let you know in here. Else maybe the creator should manually change the .db file they exported from them, after they verify it is indeed an error.

Yusuf Ali - 78:40 - "mere" instead of "metre"

ahmedre commented 7 years ago

4:145 - Muhsin Khan "vVerily, the hyprocrites will be in the lowest depths (grade) of the Fire; no helper will you find for them." - no reason for that v at the start.

ahmedre commented 7 years ago

Yusuf Ali - 51:47 it should say 'space', not 'pace'

ahmedre commented 7 years ago

in surah 3, verse 131: Shouldn't it say "prepared" instead of "repaired". Yusuf Ali

(verified in Kindle edition i purchased that it should be prepared).

muhsin khan - 3:117 - against misspelled

ahmedre commented 7 years ago

English translation of Muhsin Khan & Taqiuddin Hilali in 11:18 there is a typo.

  1. "And who does more wrong than he who invents a lie against Allah. Such wi, l be ..."

It should be corrected to

  1. "And who does more wrong than he who invents a lie against Allah. Such will be..."

Barak Allah feekum. May Allah accept your efforts.

Mufti Taqi Uthmani

another one - sura 27 (Naml) ayah 62 - "... Or the One who responds to a helpless person when He prays to Him and removes distress"

the He shouldn't have a capital H.

ahmedre commented 7 years ago

Mufti Taqi Uthmani

sura 30 ayah 24 - "And it is among His signs that He shows you the lightening which causes fear and hope, and that He sends down water from the sky, then He revives the earth with it after its death. Surely in this there are signs for a people who understand"

lightening is misspelled, should be lightning.

ahmedre commented 7 years ago

Mufti Taqi Uthmani

sura 30 ayah 48 - "Allah is the One who sends the winds, so they stir up a cloud, then He spreads it in the sky however he wills, and makes it (split) into pieces. Then you see the rain coming out from its midst. So, once He makes it reach those whom He wills from His slaves, they start rejoicing"

h should be capital here

ahmedre commented 7 years ago

Mufti Taqi Uthmani - sura 56:72 has a "5" in it that shouldn't be there.

ahmedre commented 7 years ago

Mufti Taqi Uthmani - 39;44 is not complete.

currently:

Say, “Intercession belongs entirely to Allah.”

this is the first part of the ayah only - but found several pdfs and they also only say this - also found a brother with a hard copy of the book that also only says this. it's clear from the Arabic (and all other translations) that this is only the first part of the translation.

for example, the Sahih International one says:

Say, "To Allah belongs [the right to allow] intercession entirely. To Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. Then to Him you will be returned."

will therefore update 39:44 for Mufti Taji to retain his first part and use the other half from Sahih International.

Say, “Intercession belongs entirely to Allah. To Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. Then to Him you will be returned."

Yusuf Ali translation of 11:18. Lie is replaced with life.

ahmedre commented 7 years ago

check Abdul Haleem 2:93 - part of it is in 94 (so 93 is partial, and 94 contains the end of 93 and then 94).

update - i made this change because the report is completely correct even though the Kindle version uses the same split.

basically it looked like:

2:93 - Remember when We took your pledge, making the mountain tower above you, and said, ‘Hold on firmly to what We have given you, and listen to [what We say].’ They said, ‘We hear and we disobey,’ and through their disbelief they were made to drink [the love of] the calf deep into their hearts.

2:94 - Say, ‘How evil are the things your belief commands you to do, if you really are believers!’ Say, ‘If the last home with God is to be for you alone and no one else, then you should long for death, if your claim is true.’

the report is (correctly) saying that:

Say, ‘How evil are the things your belief commands you to do, if you really are believers!’

should be part of 2:93 instead of 2:94.

updated one looks like:

2:93 - Remember when We took your pledge, making the mountain tower above you, and said, ‘Hold on firmly to what We have given you, and listen to [what We say].’ They said, ‘We hear and we disobey,’ and through their disbelief they were made to drink [the love of] the calf deep into their hearts. Say, ‘How evil are the things your belief commands you to do, if you really are believers!’

2:94 - Say, ‘If the last home with God is to be for you alone and no one else, then you should long for death, if your claim is true.’

ahmedre commented 7 years ago

check Abdul Haleem 2:20

the report is correct - our version stops too early and cuts out half the ayah - the version in the Kindle edition is:

The lightning almost snatches away their sight: whenever it flashes on them they walk on and when darkness falls around them they stand still. If God so willed, He could take away their hearing and sight: God has power over everything.

Another notification concerning the: "Saheeh International translation", in Surah Al-Waqi'ah:[56:85] it's written on my: Quran for Android Application: "And Our Angels" while It seems that "Saheeh International translation" actually says: "And We [i.e., Our angels]", which seems more logical if we translate from Arabic, but the meaning effectively may be the Angels, from the Tafsirs. Can you confirm this please ?

i can confirm a pdf i found online of Sahih International says (and also their new website):

"And We [i.e., Our angels]" instead of just "And Our Angels" - the rest is identical. made the change.

ahmedre commented 7 years ago

Yusuf Ali - 10:85 - "our" instead of "out"

ahmedre commented 7 years ago

Abdul Haleem - 88:17 - translates ibl as rain clouds - all other English translations use camel

leaving this alone - the Kindle version has a footnote:

"The word ibl can mean 'camel' as well as 'rain cloud'. However, the latter is better in this context amongst all the other geographical images presented. Rain is often used to illustrate the concept of resurrection."

3:3 - It is He Who sent down to thee (step by step), in truth, the Book, confirming what went before it; and He sent down the Law (of Moses) and the Gospel (of Jesus) before this, as a guide to mankind, and He sent down the criterion (of judgment between right and wrong).

3:4 - Then those who reject Faith in the Signs of Allah will suffer the severest penalty, and Allah is Exalted in Might, Lord of Retribution.

changing to move

And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud.

I wanted to know why is this Noble Quran translation different than the Noble Quran Translation of King Fahad Complex?

King Fahd Complex translation:

"And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: 'I am going to create a man (Adam) from dried (sounding) clay of altered mud."

The extra of "Black Smooth" has been embeded into this translation and I was wondering where is the proof and reason behind this translation and I need to learn so that I can better myself in Dawah insha Allaah.

via an email - let's make sure we're using the latest revision if we aren't already

reviewed in a pdf and he's right - not sure where black smooth comes from. replaced with:

There is a mistake in how the translation for 23 carries on into ayah 24 in surah 71. (AbdulHaleem)

original:

23 - saying, “Do not renounce your gods! 24 - Do not renounce Wadd, Suwa, Yaghuth, Yauq, or Nasr!” They have led many astray. Lord, bring nothing but destruction down on the evildoers!’

move:

Do not renounce Wadd, Suwa, Yaghuth, Yauq, or Nasr!”

to end of 23.

after update:

23 - saying, “Do not renounce your gods! Do not renounce Wadd, Suwa, Yaghuth, Yauq, or Nasr!” 24 - They have led many astray. Lord, bring nothing but destruction down on the evildoers!’

before:

275 But those who take usury will rise up on the Day of Resurrection like someone tormented by Satan’s touch. That is because they say, ‘Trade and usury are the same,’

Whoever, on receiving God’s warning, stops taking usury may keep his past gains- God will be his judge- but whoever goes back to usury will be an inhabitant of the Fire, there to remain.
