Draw and edit feature tools required #124

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

What new feature would you like to see implemented? How will you use it?

It could be very interesting, on the map side, to implement some editing tools
in order to move, edit, delete... features (point, line, polygon)

I hope to see you soon for more interesting functions

This is a bit of bookkeeping for all our feature requests - please excuse the
extra email.

At the moment you can edit points through the table view and click on the earth
icon in the geometry field of the point you want to edit, but this is
impossible for lines and polygons.

I'm trying to map about 12,000 street intersections, and when the mapping
function doesn't place the points in the right spot, it's utterly unwieldy to
fix them. It would be a huge help to be able to pick up a point and move it to
the right spot. The site www.getlatlon.com does a great job of that sort of
interface -- it should be easy to plug something like that into Fusion Tables.

That aside, this is an amazing tool. Thanks for developing it.

I work with GIS professionally - e.g. PostGIS, MapServer, OpenLayers,
GeoServer, QuantomGIS etc. I've just started using Fusion Tables a
couple of weeks ago and it's great!

Here is why I need this feature:

I have a some maps which I've maintained so far in "My Maps". I exportet the
data as KML and uploaded it to Fusion Tables. Works fine. Now I can edit the
column values, filter data, add and redefine columns etc as in other GIS
applications. And I can add the data as a live link to Google Earth, Google
Maps etc.

But I also need to edit the GEOMETRY! Sure, I can click the KML as
pure text directly in the column, but that is obviously not an option.
I need to be able to edit it visually the way I used to do in My Maps.

It is not an option to continue using My Maps, because I want to alter
the data model (add columns etc) and see the changes live on the web.

Why I need this feature:

I have a map that requires users input for building the database. I need the
user to be able to visually mark a point on the map and add information to
columns for that point and have it added to the fusion table. The information
submitted needs to be able to be viewed immediately after submission.

It would also be good if there was a notification alerting me that someone has
added a point.

By the way, my work-around at the moment is to produce the geometry in Google
Earth, then export to KML and import to the table. If I make new objects, I can
just export those. If I change existing objects, I can merge those into the
table. But it is still a hazzle and not generic.

In my opinion is not feature request any more. Since Gmaps API comes with
drawing API few days ago you can easily edit your geometry using that Drawing
Library.

Perhaps the solution could be as easy as enabling the Google Maps Engine Lite
interface in the KML preview function, when you edit the row.

Also, having the ability to start a new record from the map layout with drawing
tools would create a geo-oriented method of creating data vs. the "edit row"
form found in the table or card layouts.

This would help me ask my pool of users to add new road project info using a
map instead of a card with the "edit row" form.
