Import of Open Street Map files or URLs

What new feature would you like to see implemented? How will you use it?

Allow import of Open Street Map files (*.osm and preferably also compressed 
versions as well) from local hard disk or from a supplied URL. If a URL - then 
remember that URL, so that tables can be refreshed from that URL on command 
(also via api).

Such a URL could be a XAPI request:

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Xapi

allowing a wonderful range of OSM mapped items to be assembled at will, on a 
Google map with appropriate attribution.
