Yes, I'd really like to see that feature - it will solve mapping huge data sets
as points (by rasterising them).

And control how "hot" each point is. If I have sparse data each one needs to
be hotter to show up properly.

It looks like Google Maps has added this ability via the visualization library
(https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/reference#WeightedL
ocation). Hopefully, Fusion Tables will also implement this feature soon!

Well, since it is not using the the Fusion technology (pre-rendered tiled
images), performance will be an issue :-|
As a prototype API though this is exactly what I'd like to see in the Fusion
tables.
