Display menu status tips are the gettext catalogue

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open BPBible 0.5 Beta 5 (it happened in Beta 4, too; not sure about earlier)
2. Position the cursor over one of most of the menu items in the Display menu 
("One verse per line", "Expand cross-references" and "Topic Tags" and the two 
submenus are the only ones that don't do it)
3. Observe the message that appears in the status bar.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect to see an appropriate message.
I see instead "Project-Id-Version: PACKAGE VERSION POT-" etc. I believe it's 
just showing the whole gettext catalogue.

Running with -d I discovered that Debug -> Output Raw and Debug -> Output 
timing get this too.
