Are boot camps worth it?

Opinions vary on this one. If you already have experience in an IT or Security domain, then a certification is the icing on the cake. If you have no experience, then a certification is good to beef up your resume and help you get an interview.

Keep in mind that someone with no IT or CyberSecurity experience can take a 5 day bootcamp and come away with a certification. Does that mean this person knows the same as someone with 10 years of CyberSecurity experience? Probably not. Boot camps are designed to help you pass the exam.

Many of the boot camps spend time teaching you to take the test, read the questions and understand what answer they are looking for.

If you were a hiring manager, what would impress you more? That I got a certification by spending $6,000 for a five day boot camp or that I read a 500 page exam prep book and took practice tests for 4 months and passed my test that way?
