I get the Gnome Shell Extensions upgrade even though I'm not using Gnome, but i3. In #779 some people report this upgrade triggering on WSL without a GUI and on macOS. I could disable it, but unless the way of detecting Gnome as the DE is not reliable, enabling it is not a 'sane default' in my opinion.
