Patch developed by @kakopo and @BerylKanali now submitted to bugzilla for review.

In the end, none of the issues highlighted in https://github.com/r-devel/r-project-sprint-2023/issues/45#issue-1861681985 were taken up at the sprint. However, with guidance from @deepayan , @kakopo and @BerylKanali worked on the related wishlist item discussed in https://github.com/r-devel/r-project-sprint-2023/discussions/9, which was subsequently opened as Bug 18756 on Bugzilla and their proposed patch is posted there.
