This is with tzdb 0.4.0?
tzdb::tzdb_names()
trigger this to print out?clock::zoned_time_now("")
trigger this to print out?I have a feeling it is in some way related to https://github.com/HowardHinnant/date/commit/22ceabf205d8d678710a43154da5a06b701c5830
Oh and if you install dev clock with pak::pak("r-lib/clock")
does it magically go away?
Yes, this is with tzdb 0.4.0
installed on the system.
The package doesn't directly require/suggest 'tzdb' or `clock', but they may be coming in via another package.
I'll check to see if I can identify the triggers you suggested :)
tzdb::tzdb_names()
does not trigger these messages in a fresh sessionclock
does not appear to be installed/required by the system, so I don't think it would be this.Does it require/suggest readr, vroom, or arrow?
Yes - we have readr
and arrow
in the package imports
Try reinstalling those from source, arrow might be hard but you should be able to do pak::pak("tidyverse/readr")
at least
Can do - it appears just to be with arrow
as library(arrow)
is triggering the console output, whilst library(readr)
has no issues.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like rebuilding arrow
from source has changes anything - library(arrow)
still triggers the messages, and they actually appeared in the install log as well (under loading from temp/final location).
I think the problem might be that arrow includes their own version of tz.cpp
and they haven't updated it to account for the fact that the 2022b time zone database had a change that prevents old tz.cpp
versions from parsing it silently, but they do use the time zone database from {tzdb}, which is newer than 2022b and therefore contains the change
I'll follow up with arrow about it
In the meantime if you downgrade to tzdb 0.3.0 it should probably fix it
Fab - thanks for the help! :)
Closing in favor of https://github.com/apache/arrow/issues/35594
Hi,
I'm working with a custom package installed locally, and since updating the installed version of
tzdb
on my system, I am getting significant numbers of console messages along the lines of#STDOFF x:xx:xx.x
where thex:xx:xx.x
is a positive or negative time measurement.This is also causing issues within various sections of R CMD check for this custom package - to the point where the number of messages is being recorded as an error/fail state.
Is this being caused by
tzdb
and if it is expected behaviour, would you be able to give me any pointers for how to supress this message in my package.
