Multiple universes with the same user #88

Open llrs opened 3 years ago

llrs commented 3 years ago

Under the current setting one needs to create multiple organizations and move there the packages if one wants to have several universes. Could it be possible to have multiple universes under the same user or organization account? That way one could use it to create mini frozen freezes of packages used for certain projects. Or use it to test reverse dependencies (on github) with new changes on the packages, while having other universes for normal project/analysis work.

Many thanks for this project

Related to #149

Thanks @maelle ! Yes, it could be a use, at the time I had in mind renv but it could also be used for reverse depencencies check (for those of us without cloud resources) :D.

I was recently thinking on creating a package via runiverse package to add and remove packages based on checks, but that's probably for #149

Or #135, actually!

Oh, nice! Thanks for letting me know it is on the radar.

For https://github.com/r-releases/help/issues/10, it would really help to be able to have multiple universes for the same GitHub org. That way, the QA universe https://r-releases.r-universe.dev and the posited production universe https://r-strict.-universe.dev could be hosted from https://github.com/r-releases, which is fitting because they really both belong there.
