gdipp_hook.exe crashes when rendering text #110

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Which program triggers the problem? Specify the filename if possible.
gdipp_hook.exe

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Installing gdipp as service

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The expected output is FreeType smoothing.
What I see is crashing hook for every character displayed :(

What version of gdipp (including renderer)? On which operating system?
0.9.0 Beta, renderer version is unknown. Windows Vista x64.

Please provide any additional information below. Screenshots always help.

I had to click away messages to not get a BSOD and uninstall gdipp, including
services, to stop this stupid problem.

Do you mean applications crashed? Do you see BSOD? Or just incorrect character
display?

There is some known bug in gdipp Hook that fails to render applications. But I
have not received any report about application crash caused by gdipp Hook.

BSOD? I was trying to avoid it because I got "executable.exe has stopped
working." dialogs. Too much of these. Incorrect character display? No, all
displays correctly in cleartype, just the hook crashes because it fails to
render *for every character*. I have to close all those annoying dialogs down
and disable services & uninstall that freakin' junk program(not literally, as
the screenshots are really good). The hook crashed for every character or
word(I don't really know) and I have to close all them down. Luckily, I could
disable it. All is working now, I hope you got all the needed information. It
does all work in ClearType, just those annoying gdipp crashes. Thank God I did
not install this in Registry mode, or my computer would be rendered to a
low-grade brick with the need to install Windows again. I switched to GDI++, it
is enough for me as I mostly browse Internet. Someone has a netbook with
Windows 7 Starter, GDI++(not gdipp) renders everything except the GDI++ menu.
Got everything right, no worries.

This is just a beta version which means there will be bugs and issues making
you annoyed. I don't wanna compare gdipp and GDI++ here (if GDI++ were such a
perfect solution while gdipp is such a "freakin' junk prog", why would you ever
changed to gdipp?). The point is that crendking is working on gdipp and fixing
bugs actively, so if you cannot stand any issues, pls just don't use it. We
love this software so we use it and test it. As a free software project,
reporting bugs does help its growth, but not irrational complain and sarcasm.

Wow, seems gdipp really does not like your computer. I have never received any
BSOD report since long time ago. There must be something special (security?
firewall? HIPS?) in your system that differs from most of the others. I suggest
you try the gdipp Loader first and see if that works. We can discuss more if
you would like to.

FYI, currently gdipp is licensed under the New BSD license. Once you install
and use gdipp, you implicitly agree with the license. You can read that the
software author does not imply any warranty on its functionality.

Actually, it did NOT give me a BSOD. I was trying to avoid it. According to
Windows it crashed 17 times trying to render text, leaving ClearType. Also, it
is really not a freakin' junk prog, I said this because it crashed precisely 17
times. The gdipp Loader did also crash with the hook thingy and I have
Kaspersky CBE (ComputerBild Edition, special stuff from Germany). Maybe
Registry mode will work, but it's better to stay safe than risking an unusable
no-font computer, so I will not try it. BTW, what do you exactly mean with
"warranty"? Computer repair? 100% guaranteed works? If Computer Repair, I got
it right. gdipp Hook itself crashed, not other apps crashing due to it, if you
didn't still understand me right. Sorry, can't post video or bmp's, as I
uninstalled it and don't want to. To novelkeny: Thanks, I will stop sarcasm.
Continue: When I see something like a stable final version of gdipp 0.9.0 and
you seemed to fix this bug that renders the program a time waster, then
comment. I will check my emails sometimes and download the software. Thanks in
advance.

Kaspersky or anything security software might be the cause of BSOD.

Warranty means warranty. I don't make warranty that gdipp will render
correctly, will not crash any program, though it is trying to avoid them. For
example, if you are using Notepad to write a novel for 2 hours without saving,
and gdipp crashes Notepad. You are mad at gdipp, but you must not sue me.

Since I did not reproduce your situation, I do not know what the problem is. It
is unlikely that I will "fix this bug" and notify you. My advice is, the next
time you reinstall Windows, if you can still remember this project, try it
before any thing else.

Note: I recently saw a stable version, though I was using K7 Antivirus 8.0 that
time. Maybe that one? I also upgraded to Win 7, so it might be running, but I
won't better risk the same or worse, so let's wait for 0.9.0 Stable :)
Oh, I didn't read that I should try it before anything else, but my graphics
card is dry then (I have to download drivers as WDDM isn't there and my res is
ouch) and I require FoxFilter, WOT and Firefox at least. Again, thanks. I will
try the LOADER and see if it works. I will use 0.7.2 Stable, though, as 0.9.0
is in beta state. Again, thanks. Have to change: Don't read WIndows Vista H.P.
64, read Windows 7 Ultimate 64 as I reinstalled.

Results: gdipp Loader seemed to jazz on GIMPshop. No hook crashes. So I
installed it in service mode. Results: Looked like a subtle difference at
first, though it really looks awww... can't describe, just amazed at this one.
Thank you very much! Please close this one.
