When I was putting strata on a 1º grid, the idea was to define a stratum as anything in a 1º. However, I created strata by pasting ll2strat() with stratum.
In other words, if the border between 2 strata ran through a 1º grid cell, then haul on either side of the border, but still in the same 1º cell, would be considered part of different strata. Moreover, they would be rather unique strata b/c there are fewer opportunities to sample these potentiall N times subdivided strata.
It is unclear how much this matters in practice, but it doesn't seem to be intentional.
