This PR merges staging into master.

Important: This PR must use the standard merge strategy. Do not use "squash and merge" or "rebase and merge" as the merge strategy as squash or rebase strategies will break the publication chain.

Also, it should work without hitting the Update Branch button, so I recommend not doing so.

@nimbinatus : do we ever use "squash and merge" or "rebase and merge"? If not, we could just turn off that setting for the repo.

We use squash and merge for the PRs into staging.
