@dtabell -- can this issue be closed? In any case, it might be time to move on with a new plan of action.

Closing this issue: Other notebooks already contain updated documentation vis-à-vis thermal simulations in FEniCS, as well as cross-section plots. The problem with repeat calls is a larger difficulty that merits a separate issue.
