Merge branch 'ndiff' into develop #61

This applies the ndiff vendoring and improved/fixed warm snake caching from PR #59 / PR #60 on the add-zgoubi-tests branch.

(To do this, I cherry-picked a merge commit that resulted from merging the ndiff branch into develop. This compressess the three commits that merge commit represents into one, but does not pull in the other commits on develop that are not yet on this branch)
