Difficulties installing virtualenv #164

Several people had different problems getting virtualenv (and setuptools), installed.

virtualenv doesn't seem to work happily with Python from an Anaconda distribution
following the tip on http://extasy.readthedocs.org/en/latest/pages/installation.html#installation it's possible to get virtualenv, but not have setuptools, so pip install fails.

I wonder if we should be pointing people to https://pypi.python.org/pypi/setuptools - which is a pretty fool-proof and multi-platform way of setting up?
