Remove host-specific setups from the kernels #184

Rely on the user to set up an environment that will support the kernels that they want to run. This requires not purging the environment, but no longer need to set up according to the pre_exec options.

In a separate branch (issue/184). First iteration of the implementation done. Needs more testing.
