ssh instability #21

Issue: UCL faces ssh instability when submitting jobs from a local VM (at UCL) to Blue Waters.

@andre-merzky can we get the specifications of the RADICAL-VM in terms of cores, RAM, number of users.

Assuming our second VM, two.radical-project, the specs are:

Please note that this specs have little relevance in connection to the stability of ssh connection. That depends on the quality of network connection between the VM and BW. In turn, this is determined by many factors, including but not limited to: number of hops; switching, routing and firewall policies; bandwidth; and OS configuration. Anecdotally, providers offering ssh connectivity and cloud providers in general offer fairly solid connections (as with our VM).

Did the user(s) try to use our VM?

On a separate note, is the user able to quantify this 'instability'?

I agree with the point: Please note that this specs have little relevance in connection to the stability of ssh connection. As long as the system load does not lead to significant stalls which would let the connection time out, the machine setup and load should have no relevance wrt. to ssh stability.
