The items smoke test is in a pretty good spot, but we'd like to add a few more tests to smoke out more edges of the items API. A great implementation would:
[ ] Add/use a database seeder that consists of a larger dataset than basic-small-seed
[ ] Use as little code as possible to test as many edges as possible, strike a balance here in the smoke test
[ ] Add more code to existing test cases to evaluate more edges
