There's no good way to see other people. If this is a project that I should set up my own instance of for my activist group, that's cool - but perhaps you should have an option that can be set by the sysadmin of a given instance for whether or not people can "see" other people. It's a question of whether you want to be more like Twitter (default: everything is open, what you do can be seen) or like Facebook (default: I click on the name of somebody with whom I'm not already friends, and I can't see anything about them.) I feel like I should be able to find other people interested in the same causes as I am and stuff - as it is, it seems like this might only be useful for internal organization within a group.
