The changes in platform.h are optional for the normal client (the according line in make.defaults 'corrects' it) but needed for the gl2-client.
With FASTER_STARTUP enabled, the client didn't find most of the sounds, as the search is performed during parsing each node in the xml files and not after the whole array gets sorted.
