Sometimes boot goes further but also stops responding:
I changed the monitor that is connected to HDMI. This now leads to a booting system. Once I start chromium it crashes again. Screen turns green.
So far HDMI doesn't support hot plug. Please plug in HDMI cable before powering on 5B.
Also I have updated meta-rockchip (https://github.com/radxa/meta-rockchip/commit/ce4df95929be710e0c6f6aa2e71e5262fab03bcb) to get newer kernel for better monitor compatibility.
I have built one core-image-sato, there is desktop showing on my aoc monitor.
For Chromium issue, I don't test it yet. I will continue to test chromium.

I tried the new kernel version and reducing emmc speed but the error persists. I had one boot that went through. But since then only green HDMI screen and hung/crashed kernel.

I tried flashing to SD card and on the board that does not boot from emmc it boots and crashes right after showing the matchbox screen. Is it plausible, that I have two defective hardware? I use rock-5b-spi-image-g3caf61a44c2-debug as SPI bootloader and used RKDevTool 2.96 to flash it.

Please try it with eMMC. Bootimg from SD is not supported so far.
And we don't need to write the image to SPI Nor Flash. Can you erase SPI Nor Flash and test again?

I erased SPINOR and it startet two times without issues, the third time it stuck on the green screen again. I moved the eMMC to the second board that would not start from, eMMC, erased SPINOR and boot is stuck at soft reset. Doing power on resets did work for at least 10 times in a row.
I validated flash steps and also validated the erase of SPINOR.
I did some more rebooting and it seams as if it works most of the time but not every time. some times it still crashes with a green screen.
To validate spi erase. Remove the eMMC module and power on 5B, 5B would get into maskrom mode.
Do you have Radxa PD 30W adapter or DC 12V power adapter? If yes, please try it.
Without eMMC there is no serial output and MASKROM was enabled, so I would say SPINOR is successfully erased
A tried 12V Power over the USB-C connector. It booted once in 10 tries. It stuck at different times of the boot process. Mostly during init, sometimes before.
What is your hardware version? Can you take a picture of your hardware connection?

I built the system using the rockchip-rk3588-rock-5b configuration. I added #1 and flashed the image to eMMC using RKDevTool. When attaching a HDMI cable the kernel starts and stops responding after a few seconds (log below). Without HDMI connection the system starts and runs. Pluging in HDMI after system startup, the monitor stays black.
