identities_imap not working with gmail 2-step verification

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Install and setup as per instructions and add a gmail identity
2.Add an app password in the google account security settings for Roundcube
3.Configure IMAP for the gmail identity (less than 10 minutes later)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected to see a successful save and the SMTP section opening up.
Instead get a timeout error. The server log shows
IMAP Error: Login failed for blabla@gmail.com from XX.XXX.XXX.XX. Could not 
connect to ssl://imap.gmail.com:993: Connection timed out

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Roundcube 1.0.2 patched up according to myroundcube running on linux

Please provide any additional information below.
Followed carefully all the steps. Have successfully setup IMAP access using 
2-step for other applications already (such as Apple Mail, Thunderbird, etc).

What is "2-step" verification. Is it a special setting your Google account? 
Does Roundcube support it? I don't think so. Please note, that the plugin is 
using Roundcube's authentication feature and it is therefore limited to that 
what Roundcube core provides.

Won't fix because it is not supported by Roundcube Core. Contact Roundcube devs 
and ask there for this feature.
