Solaris incompatibility / more clarity on version support? #53

The main page for darkice states it runs on "Solaris" among other OS'es This is
a bit broad as many
sites still use Solaris 8 and 9 for many reasons, 10 not being an option, or
offers no benefit. (never
mind 11 and upwards)

After half a day monkeying around on the mention that it's compatible with our
systems, I'd like to
offer the following: darkice is completely incompatible with Solaris Sparc
below v10, from releases
around 0.20 upwards.

This stems from a symbol "pselect" referenced in the source of 0.20 onwards
(possibly earlier, but not
in 0.17n), which is only available from Solaris 10 onwards. Frustrating!

Might someone clarify this somewhere, saving countless other Solaris/Sparc
users the needless frustration? ("Solaris 10+" for example?)

Note:
I have successfully compiled 0.17.1 on Solaris 9, UltraSparc IIi, using the
default /dev/audio device
in the form of an Ensoniq/Creative PCI card supported by the Sun's
SUNW,audioens driver. It streams
a treat into an old Solaris 2.6 shoutcast 1.9.8 server running on the same
system. If anyone wishes a
little binary kit for Solaris 9, please ask - it's about 6 files to run the
complete kit on a virgin Solaris 9
core install. (Apologies if this last offer bit is posted incorrectly)

regards, jason f.

Could you please post a patch in order to support older Solaris releases?
