Error on trying to launch AVI video

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install on Moodle as per docs
2. Add activity  - mediaplayer - configured as Matts demo
3. Click on link to view video

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Video plays (it worked on my developer testing box) - on live site instead 
get error message "video not found or access denied" - then url of video.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Linux (LAMP)
Moodle 1.97
MPlayer version 2009112500

Please provide any additional information below.

Live site on LAMP set up by our Moodle Partner (who installed the mplayer 
during upgrade last month) but testing server  is on WAMP set up by myself 
and in-house IT (player works on this).
any suggestions on cause / solution welcome, thanks

Hi Gordon, Wow, I'm surprised that an AVI video worked at all! AFAIK, AVI isn't 
a 
supported format on Flash Player. I recommend encoding your video source files 
to any 
of the formats listed on this page: http://code.google.com/p/moodle-
mplayer/wiki/SupportedMediaTypes
