Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

DesktopSMS don't connect to my Magic in USB (not tested in WiFi) under
Linux. I tried with ArchLinux and Ubuntu 9.04, Java5 and Java6: the same
result.

Hello,
I hope help you to test desktopsms.

My configuration :
 - PC under Ubuntu 9.04

My Java machines:
 - OpenJDK java 6 Runtime
 - Sun java 6 Runtime

Android Phone :
 - HTC Hero (without modification)
 - Firmware 1.5
 - Kernel 2.6.27-a5504199 / htc-kernel@and18-2 #521
 - Build 1.76.405.6 146733 CL#47214 release keys
 - Sofware 1.0.0.A6288

My comments:
Connexion context :I use a wifi connexion through a router (Freebox).
1 - I have difficulty to get initial net connexion between devices (I make a ping in
background on ubuntu to monitor it)
2 - When I start a connexion with Desktop SMS, it keeps alive only to get contacts
list but not SMS history.
3 - When I try to send a SMS in the few time (~5s) the connexion keeps alive after
pressing Connect, I got the popup message "Désolé ! : Fermeture soudaine de
l'application DesktopSMS (du processus fr.galize.android). Merci de réessayer";
however the message is sent well.

For me it works under ubuntu. Are you sure adb works correctly?

I doubt it because your logs say:
  Launch adb :/opt/android-sdk/tools/adb
  Try to connect...
  Connected
  Connection false

What is your output when you type "adb devices" in shell and your device is
connected?

Also be sure that you have added a udev rule for your android device.
I've just made a blogpost to explain how you must do that
http://ubuntu42.blogspot.com/2009/12/udev-rules-needed-for-your-android.html.

Fails to maintain connection. Fails to gather complete list of contacts.
Connection not maintained long enough to compose message, so message
transmit/receive is unknown.

Motorola Droid X, USB tethered via OpenVPN & Azilink to a Ubuntu 8.10 box
(bigblackbox). bigblackbox provides NAT (and other services, ie. dhcp, nfs,
dns, etc.) to the rest of my network. DesktopSMS desktop client running on
Ubuntu 11.04 with Sun Java 6 Runtime (joeg33k-notebook-2011a).

Attempted connects to phones' outside ip, same issue. Disconnected tether,
connected phone to WiFi, same issue. I have not attempted to connect with
bigblackbox running DesktopSMS, as that machine has no GUI.

Connecting the phone directly to joeg33k-notebook-2011a is not possible as it
defeats my network topology. Bigblackbox serves twelve other devices internet
access and, joeg33k-notebook-2011a is not always on or even on site.
