Volunteering to organize

sidhene commented 10 years ago

I'm onboarding/mentoring chrisbrickey in the June Pride workshop

lzhengem commented 10 years ago

Hi! I'm volunteering to organize! :)

klq commented 10 years ago

Is this on September.28th? I can help organize this one.

iisa commented 10 years ago

Hi @klq @missimi @sidhene @chrisbrickey - I don't believe a date has been confirmed for this workshop yet.

Amy, re: our last conversation - I mistook this Sept. workshop for the one I am mentoring which is Sept. 6

LMK if there is anything else I can help with. Best, Isa

shahshaan commented 10 years ago

We can provide the venue. For whomever is following all the different threads for the 3 workshops in August/September, you might be seeing a trend here. :)

@sidhene it might help to meet in person. Being new to the tech community, it would definitely help me on my end. shaan@makersquare.com

missherico commented 10 years ago

Hi @shahshaan - thanks very much for confirming the venue for this workshop. it will only be a one day front-end workshop. @keomany (Holly) will be taking over as workshop-venue contact for RailsBridge.

We also have another organizer, @missimi. I will be mentoring @keomany and @missimi so please keep me CC'd when we start emailing off-thread. This is very exciting. Let's continue to keep in touch. Best, Isa

shahshaan commented 10 years ago

Sounds good @missherico

When you all start communicating via email, you can reach me at shaan@makersquare.com

rachelmyers commented 10 years ago

I updated the title based on the description in the top post. Please re-edit it if I'm wrong. :no_mouth:

keomany commented 10 years ago

HAI.

How far along are we with this workshop? I'm going to start tackling the rest of the tasks on this list, namely ordering food (breakfast & lunch), finding a venue for the after-party and making the event/setting a RSVP limit on Bridgetroll.

But first, I have some questions: how do I organize a teacher training session? What is the budget for food? Do I contact MakerSquare for this information?

iisa commented 10 years ago

Hey Holly @keomany, way to be team lead! Ok, so yes, please contact Shaan directly as above, please cc me and @missimi when you do. Once you can get the confirmation on logistics (conference rooms w monitors, approx how many people can fit, things Makersquare needs to get this workshop done, can they provide coffee throughout the day?), then let's get that event on bridgetroll. that's a great place to start.

lzhengem commented 10 years ago

Hello! I'm excited to be here, and ready to help! I agree that it would be helpful to have a mentoring session though.

Thanks!!

iisa commented 10 years ago

hi @missimi, Holly will email us 3 in one thread, and let's schedule a face-to-face meeting if possible soon. we can meet at my job after hours if needed. what's your gmail?

lzhengem commented 10 years ago

hello @iisa! my email is lzheng22@mail.ccsf.edu.

keomany commented 10 years ago

Gottt it. How do I go about organizing a teacher trainjn? Do we need to find or reach out to volunteers first? Who will train them? Will it be held at Maker Square?

keomany commented 10 years ago

Will I need to create an event or just email them?

tjgrathwell commented 10 years ago

@keomany I noticed the Bridge Troll event for this (http://www.bridgetroll.org/events/114) includes an Installfest; that's probably not needed for a Frontend workshop because students mostly just need a web browser and text editor. Was that intentional?

There's no way to remove sessions using the website after the event is saved, but if there's not going to be an installfest I can remove the installfest from the DB before publishing.

keomany commented 10 years ago

Hey Travis,

Could you do that please? I forgot that I was organizing the front-end workshop, and thought I was doing the regular RoR one.

Thanks. Holly

Hey all,

I can't say I have been the best with keeping up with the conversation on Github, but we spoke to Holly yesterday and I think we're on track.

If you all have any questions, please contact harsh@makersquare.com (cc'ed) or call me at the number below.

Thanks, Shaan

Alright, both the event and the teacher training have been published on Bridge Troll.

lilliealbert commented 10 years ago

Hey, this workshop is the weekend after the Front End workshop at Dev Bootcamp. Can we move it back in September or turn it into a Rails workshop?

Let's not change the issues-based workflow and revert to email for a single workshop. Did you know you can direct notifications from repos owned by the railsbridge organization to harsh@makersquare.com, if that's where you'd like updates to go? :rainbow: From the github notification settings:

You can send notifications to different verified email addresses depending on the organization that owns the repository.

Yay for not breaking each others' flow! :zap:

keomany commented 10 years ago

Hi Lillie, I'll move the date back.

lilliealbert commented 10 years ago

I'm actually not worried about this anymore, because we already have 12 volunteers signed up to teach the 30 students — it'll probably be much bigger of a mess to try to reschedule it than it is to just let it be.

lilliealbert commented 10 years ago

Looks like this workshops has come and gone — gonna close this issue!   to everyone who made it happen!
