Try clicking the link above again. That worked for me.
Clicking either of the links doesn't work for me.
sorry. My another meeting just finished. Is this meeting still going on? I clicked the link above by @nesquena but the meeting is over.
We (@glenna, @ultrasaurus, @LauraKirby, @DiyahM, @timothy1ee, @nesquena) had a hangout today about next steps, was great meeting you all! A few notes from the hangout:
Feel free to add a comment if I've missed anything. Thanks to everyone pitching in to make this event possible! Will do my best to keep the checklist updated as we complete tasks.
@imju Hangout has ended, sorry you weren't able to join, we were having some issues with inviting. Since you've TA'ed at a workshop before though, would be great to have your help during teacher training on September 28th as we review the curriculum with everyone that wants to help out.
To-Do Continued/ Random bits that I remember 1) Think about a "party spot" for after the training. 2) Can the event host provide a few laptops for day use? 3) Laura is awaiting location confirmation before creating the event on BridgeTroll and emailing Alaina re: posting the event w/i WWC newsletter. 4) Should we consider another sponsor to increase the number of iOS developers, so that attendees know more about iOS positions/community?
The teacher training is going to be Sunday 9/28? If so, what time?
I want to attend, but I'm currently working until 2pm on Sundays. Going to try to change my schedule, but might not be able to arrange that.
Yes, that is the date we have set for the training. However, we have not yet set a time.
@LauraKirby Apportable is available to host and provide food and drinks for both events, but we will need security while MobileBridge is occupying the building on those two days. I have a link for the security company that we normally use. Is the cost for security something we can factor into the cost for attendance? or...?
I also need details on what kind of food/drinks we would like to provide during both events.
Glenna, there are some suggestions in the cook book. The rest of the cookbook may be helpful as well!

@glenna I have looked over other RailsBridge events (that cookbook is great, yet, massive and I am at work). According to the BridgeTroll website, it appears that the iOS Bridge event should go from 9:00am to 5:00pm. The teacher training is two hours, unless people think this won't be sufficient. To get the "ball rolling" on these two events, I would suggest that we reserve the space from 8:00am to 6:00pm on Saturday 10/18/14 and from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Sunday 9/28/14.
Does 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Sunday 9/28/14 work for everyone for the teacher training? Please respond at your earliest convenience so we can move to setting up security and posting the event on BridgeTroll.
Yes, we are required to have security in the office during events.
Glenna, thank you for your prompt response. Will you be able to make the suggested time frame for the teacher training?
@LauraKirby yup!
@LauraKirby Sunday 5-7pm is fine for me

I have found some information about sponsors (from the Cookbook). 1) Glenna can you please provide an estimate for the cost of security (both days) using the company Apportable usually uses? 2) "RailsBridge can act as the sole sponsor for a workshop, but we highly encourage organizers who are able to seek sponsorship from companies and organizations in their networks, so that RailsBridge funds can be used for workshops in new cities where finding sponsorship is onerous and might prevent a workshop from taking place. For more information on sponsorship by RailsBridge, check out the Money Things section." 3) We should send out the request for a sponsor letter to at least a few companies. (Template located in the RailsBridge Google Docs.) Would anyone like to volunteer to send and/or provide locations for sponsorship letters? 4) From "Cookbook": Sponsorship and Reimbursement "If you have expenses that aren't covered by a sponsor and you need additional sponsorship from RailsBridge / Bridge Foundry, we'll need to give you the okay ahead of time. Email the finance team at finance@railsbridge.org for approval. Workshops which require less than $150 do not need advance approval. (RailsBridge can act as the sole sponsor for a workshop, but we highly encourage organizers who are able to seek sponsorship from companies and organizations in their networks, so that RailsBridge funds can be used for workshops in new cities where finding sponsorship is onerous and might prevent a workshop from taking place.)"
Thank you all for your combined efforts.
Yes, first I am seeing if Apportable can cover the security cost.
Thank you Glenna!
It looks like we discussed 10:00am to 4:00pm. I am not sure if this time frame is for the iOS Bridge or the teacher training, or if it even matters anymore. (Sorry for the random note, thought?)
@LauraKirby works for me, but i'll need to update Apportable on that
Sorry. But 10AM to 4PM would not work for me on that day. How about others?

@LauraKirby Apportable will provide security for the end of the day on both days. We'll want to have someone from MobileBridge dedicated to the front door before/during the event to let people in/direct them to the event areas, etc.
@glenna sounds great and thank you so much! I am sure we will be able to recruit someone to work the door (I can even do so).
@nesquena @jimmy @DiyahM @kmolo @ultrasaurus @mfjenn @neurosaurus @rajatb Please confirm availability for the teacher training on 9/28/14. The training will either be from 10:00am to 4:00pm OR 5:00pm to 7:00pm. It looks like other Bridge events have hosted a two hour training. However, being that this is our first iOS Bridge, so we might need longer. @nesquena and @jimmy what do you feel comfortable with in terms of time needed to train the teachers?
Yep teacher training time works OK for me and @timothy1ee. Since this is a brand new curriculum, we might want more time to review it then for the existing curriculums? But I think we could probably speed through it from 5-7 as well. /cc @nidhi1608 as well so she can read through the thread.
Sorry I feel like that I am constraining all of you. 3-7 would work for me as well if 2 hr is too brief.

Teacher training has 3 parts:
Usually we'll spend at least an hour on #1, #2 is short (15-20 mins), and I think we should avoid planning to speed through curriculum. Since @imju is a codepath alum, maybe we could start earlier and take our time with the curriculum then she could join us when free. Maybe 2-7, plan for some time for intros and general Q&A / discussion at the end.
That day and time works for me

@nesquena and @timothy1ee, it appears that we will need some more time for the teacher training. Will you two be able to meet from 3:00pm to 7:00pm on 9/28/14?
@nesquena and @timothy1ee (and all), I am setting up the event on BridgeTroll, it looks like we can post the curriculum here. However, I have just read through the outline (from the above-listed link) and I would not want anyone to read though the current version and feel as though they were not welcome at the MobileBridge event. If you don't mind, I will go through and edit it to make it sound more inclusive. Additionally, I will set the tone to be more of a "here is how you set up" and "this is what we will be covering." I know the original outline was not created for the purpose of a MobileBridge event, however with a few edits, I think it will fit nicely. Any objections, suggestions or questions? Thank you everyone for your feedback.

Yep that works for us!

Sounds great! Thanks for helping us improve that, feel free to make any edits.
We're hosting CodeNow.org 9/27, 9/28, and 10/11 from about 8am to 5pm. Things typically wind up a little before 5pm, so Sunday 5-7pm could work. Our office is available all day Saturday, 10/18/14.
Assuming the 9/28 teacher training is at the 657 Bryant St address I found online for Apportable, I could be there 3:30 or a little after.
[Please correct if I got your availability wrong in the following summary] @nesquena @timothy1ee @LauraKirby @glenna [ @jimmy --edited ] -- any time 10am onward @ultrasaurus @DiyahM -- 2-7pm @imju -- 3-7pm @kmolo -- 3:30pm onward @neurosaurus @rajatb @mfjenn -- ???
Based on these availabilities, I wonder if the order the teacher training that @ultrasaurus described:
...could be switched to 2-3-1, bumping the Railsbridge teaching techniques to the end of the teacher training, so that @imju @kmolo could be present for the entirety of that section.
So, is 2-7pm the time for the teacher training on Sun 9/28?
-Katherine
When I said 5-7pm, I meant our office space is available at those hours. As far as my volunteering goes. I'm available almost all day 9/28, and free for only the first half of 10/18.
I believe we established the teacher training to be from 3:00pm to 7:00pm on 9/28/14 at Apportable (657 Bryant Street ). The student session will be from 9:00am to 5:00pm on 10/18/14 at Apportable.
Can someone please take responsibility to looking into childcare for the student session on 10/18/14 from 9:00am to 5:00pm? I recommend that you can contact other RailsBridge hosts for suggestions.
My goal is to get the event posted on BridgeTroll before Friday, ideally Wednesday evening. Glenna has been great working with me to sort other details.
Thank you.
Have we talked about installfest? I haven't nailed down 10/17 with Apportable yet, should I?
Definitely. When students come to the 1-day Android Workshops with unfinished setup, this really derails their morning, and they're able to accomplish much less than they should (and these students have been more experienced developers).
We should probably make sure everyone is on board with working an additional night.
I don't know what downloading Android Studio is like but downloading X-Code is pretty simple. I am not sure that it would require an installfest. I did attend a RailsBridge back in January and found that the installfest was vital to my success on Saturday morning, however, the setup for iOS is much more simple.
Thoughts?
Maybe the iOS emulation is less fraught.
I know when we get around to running the Android version of this workshop -- after the success/experience of the iOS Pilot -- we should definitely schedule an install night.
Downloading Android Studio is pretty simple, but getting all the way through a demo app so that they can see that they have their emulator working correctly, or if they want to use an alternate emulator (like Genymotion), is more troublesome.
Returning to the iOS Piliot, I'd be available to help on the evening of Fri 10/17, if it is determined that an install night is desirable.
Would virtual installfest work too? XCode is hassle free compared to Android IDE. We can do google HangOut something like that.

I think a virtual installfest is a great idea. We can make ourselves available for chat or video conferencing.
I see that this workshop is still labeled "Needs Organizer" and "Needs Venue/Sponsor" -- can these labels be removed, or are we still searching for funding?
I'm coordinating an open source hackday for Women Who Code SF on Sat 10/4 10am-4pm (breakfast & lunch provided):
http://www.meetup.com/Women-Who-Code-SF/events/195850922/
...if anyone wants to get together to work on the curriculum materials for either this iOS Mobilebridge Pilot or the subsequent Android Mobilebridge Pilot that will follow, you are most welcome to use this meetup as an in-person hacking session.
Katherine
The location, funding and curriculum have been confirmed. I will create the event tomorrow morning.
@LauraKirby This is great, thanks to you and @glenna for helping make this event possible! I'll see you all on 9/28 @ 3pm then for teacher training.
Hi @LauraKirby, I see the event was posted to Bridge Troll which is great, but the curriculum link in the event text takes me to a PDF where only the first page renders correctly. If I try to download the PDF locally, it doesn't load on my mac at all.
Is this a problem other people are seeing? If the curriculum is just a bunch of text, can it be hosted on the web somewhere? That might make it more accessible.
@LauraKirby @tjgrathwell I don't see the event on Bridge Troll. Link?
The event isn't published yet but you can look at it here http://www.bridgetroll.org/events/120
@glenna @tjgrathwell Can we point to this link instead: https://github.com/thecodepath/objc_ios_guides/wiki/iOS-1-day-Weekend-Workshop and not that PDF? This is the latest curriculum reference.
@nesquena and @timothy1ee have volunteered their Code Path curricula to kick off what we're calling MobileBridge workshops.
The hope is that this workshop will be organized by people familiar with RailsBridge, and taught by veterans of the meetup where they teach the curriculum.
9/2 Update: Tentatively scheduled for October 18th with teacher training on September 28th. Venue is pending but will likely be at Apportable. Event will be Objective-C and the schedule and curriculum can be found here and editable by anyone.
9/28: Glenna, Laura, and Katherine are the co-organizers. We've reviewed the curriculum now.
