I’m a pretty basic rails developer that just works on my own side projects, I would love to contribute but I don’t know if I would actually be able to help?!

No worries, I'm sure you will figure this out. Just look how the other integrations were added. It's a good opportunity to learn and we're always happy to help if you get stuck. :) Also it would be great that you can test it directly in your side project if it tracks what you expect. :)
