https://trac.macports.org/ticket/66658 describes a little patch you could apply that would make it less annoying to turn on native compilation, if you so chose.

Oh, I see that ticket offers a workaround, so I wouldn't suggest doing anything about this. Feel free to close.

This issue should already be fixed on the newer version which has not be released. However we don't see new release news from both official and upstream for a while, let me se if I can find a good place to put this tip.
