Are you really using wireless tether 2.07? I believe you need to update to the
newer betas.

Try this one
http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wifi_tether_v3_1-beta6.apk

I myself have an Evo 3d running Steelrom 2.02 on Android 2.3.4.

I want to confirm this issue on the Evo 3D rooted using revolution, stock rom.
However, wifi_tether_v3_1-beta6.apk works flawlessly. Thanks!

Hmm, I think I spoke too soon. It worked the first time around. Now, wireless
tether starts, but I can't successfully connect to phone from my laptop. I
tried on two separate laptops running Ubuntu. Guess it isn't error free yet.
